Historic Ireland Hotel

The land this luxury hotel resides on was originally part of the Jameson family estate, known for Irish Whiskey. The house was called St. Marnock's House. Edward VII often visited the Jamesons at this Ireland country estate. On Edward VII’s last official visit in 1907 to this Ireland home, he unveiled a plaque celebrating the marriage between the Jamesons and Haigs, two great Irish distilling families. This plaque can be seen in what is called the secret south garden of the hotel.

Tour Ireland’s Championship Golf Courses

The Jameson family created a nine-hole golf course in 1858, making it one of the earliest courses in Ireland. This golf course is now part of both the Portmarnock Golf Club and the Bernhard Langer designed Golf Links.

In 1995 Bernhard Langer affectionately incorporated part of the original layout of the original golf course in his design of the championship links available to hotel guests. This Ireland golf course uses dunes and Ireland’s natural terrain to create a challenging course that will delight the visiting golfer. The golf couse integrates elevated tees and greens, blind approaches and doglegs, not to mention Ireland sea breezes, to offer a golf experience you’ll remember for years to come.

Gently undulating luxuriously sprung fairways leading to large fast greens must be negotiated through 98 strategically placed bunkers, while hillocks, wild grasses and gorse await wayward shots. Measuring 6,350 metres, the 1st tee and 18th green are conveniently situated just a wedge shot from the hotel and clubhouse.

Guglielmo Marconi, inventor of the wireless, was a son of Annie Jameson.

James Mollison (husband of Amy Johnson) took off from Portmarnock Beach on the 18th August 1932 for what was acknowledged as the first solo east to west crossing of the Atlantic.
